For holiday makers traveling to St Ives by car, the A30 is the main trunk road servicing the South West. New dual carriage ways have opened this route up in recent years. There are many places to stop along the way to break the journey up, relax and grab something to eat. We’ve often stopped at the Eden Project en route. If you are heading down from London or South East it might be worth considering the A303 in favour of the M4/M5.

A30 roadworks in Cornwall: Construction is underway to replace the single carriageway with dual carriageway on the A30 between Temple and Higher Carblake, just east of Bodmin,  a 40mph restriction is being enforced.  Allow 20minutes extra on your journey while this work continues, through to Spring 2017.

Most people will drive to St Ives, Cornwall however parking is limited and car parks fill up early. If you can find a holiday let anywhere in St Ives with parking you will have done well as many holiday cottages and apartments are in older properties and do not include space for a car. The streets are tiny, so visitors are encouraged to leave their vehicles in the main car parks and either walk or catch a bus down to the centre of this beautiful fishing port which can be vibrant and bustling in the summer.

The train provides an excellent alternative to get to St Ives, which has a 20 minute branch line to the mainline London to Penzance intercity. There is a good, regular service to and from London with wonderful views as the train passes through the undulating countryside and skirts the seaside through Cornwall and Devon. St Ives train station is a 10 to 15 minute walk from the Harbour front, so walkable to the accommodation and restaurants mentioned on this website.
